Creating a legacy, impacting the future

James and Eleanora Belew, longtime Pittsburg residents, have created an endowed donor-advised fund with the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas. This fund offers the perfect choice for their continued support of the two charities that have always been close to their hearts.

Rather than establish a private foundation, they can continue to add to their fund over the coming years, and they have the flexibility to make distributions from their fund. The Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas would like to thank Jim and Eleanora for their belief in our community and their trust in CFSEK!

More about Jim, Eleanora, and their fund

The Belews owned Pittsburg Automotive Supply. Jim was a Shriner who had served as potentate of the Mirza Shrine Temple in 1979. The couple was active in the Via Christi Auxiliary, and Jim served for years on the Mount Carmel Foundation board.

The Belews established their fund in October 2003 to benefit the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg and the Shriners Hospital for Children. After the couple passed away, that fund was converted into an unrestricted endowment according to their directions.

The net income from the Belew Fund is available for granting as part of the CFSEK General Funds grant cycle or as part of our Match Day match pool. Thanks to the Belews’ generosity, more than a dozen local nonprofit organizations have benefitted from nearly $30,000 in grants over the last five years alone! We’re still so grateful for their kind and enduring gift!
