Accounting Manager
Position Summary: The Accounting Manager is a key member of the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas team, responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and stewardship of all financial operations. This role manages day-to-day financial workflows—including gift and fund accounting, reporting, and compliance—to ensure donor funds, scholarships, and grants are administered accurately. This is a non-supervisory role serving as the Foundation’s primary financial lead.
Reports To: Executive Director
FINANCIAL OPERATIONS & FUND ACCOUNTING
- Process all gifts, deposits, accounts payable, and accounts receivable accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and fund balances for all CFSEK and affiliate funds.
- Perform monthly bank and investment account reconciliations.
- Monitor and record asset activity reported by CFSEK’s investment partners, including rebalancing activity and fund transfers.
- Maintain documentation, internal controls, and segregation of duties practices for all financial workflows.
GIFT, SCHOLARSHIP, AND GRANT FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
- Process physical and online donor gifts, maintaining documentation of donor directives.
- Coordinate with donors and financial advisors regarding gift instructions.
- In partnership with the Program Coordinator, manage the accounting, tracking, and disbursement of all scholarships and grants.
REPORTING AND COMPLIANCE
- Prepare monthly financial reports for the Board, committees, and affiliates.
- Generate and distribute quarterly fund statements to fundholders.
- Ensure adherence to financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for auditors and coordinate the preparation of financial information for annual audit and Form 990.
GENERAL DUTIES
- Work closely with the Executive Director and Board Treasurer on financial oversight, budgeting, and reporting.
- Communicate regularly with the Board Treasurer, leadership, staff, and affiliate representatives as needed.
REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Proven experience in accounting, bookkeeping, and/or financial management; fund accounting experience preferred.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple financial workflows, deadlines, and details simultaneously.
- Demonstrated trustworthiness and discretion in handling confidential financial and donor information.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in data entry, financial tracking, payment processing, and reporting.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, problem-solve, and follow processes through to completion.
