Elm Acres Foundation 2018 Grant Recipients
- Cherokee County Research & Extension – will establish a Growing Healthy Habits Garden at Central Elementary school in Baxter Springs, KS, a hands – on raised garden educational experience for underserved youth to learn how to grow fresh produce, learn about balanced dietary intake, and develop life skills.
- Community Health Center of SEK – believes clothing makes the child and will continue to provide Baby4Baby clothing packets to teen moms with new socks, underwear, bibs and other needed items.
- Horses of Hope Riding Center, Inc. – will begin a state of the art pilot program to provide equine assisted psychotherapy for at-risk youth, Horses, Heart & HOPE.
- SEK Interlocal 637- plans to implement a secret codes reading curriculum with strategies for students with dyslexic reading tendencies at George Nettels.
- SEK Interlocal 637 – will be adding an indoor simulation track to their Project Ride program to teach mobility safety, independence, community awareness and physical fitness to students with special needs.
- PSU Enactus, Inc. – will provide children and family events at USD 250 schools through the Gorilla Achievement Program.
- USD 250 Pittsburg Community Schools – at-risk students at PHS will attend summer music camp.
- Restorative Justice Authority – is going to supplement their Evidence Based Community Programming with needed computer and related equipment.
- Ronald McDonald House of the Four States – is developing a Teen Parent Resource Library for teenage parents with materials on parenting and life skills.
- Special Olympics Kansas, Inc. – brings together youth with intellectual disabilities with nondisabled peers to learn leadership and team building skills with the end goal of new sports teams launched in SEK.
- USD 506 – Altamont Grade School – will be pushing Full Steam Ahead with STEAM materials building wide.
- Wesley House – will once again provide career development for students or job seekers with disabilities on Disability Mentoring Day.
