Basic Human Needs
- Bourbon County Inter-agency Coalition, Inc.: “Network for Families” providing rent and utility assistance for families helping to keep families intact and housed.
- CLASS LTD: “Emergency Human Needs Assistance” for individuals with intellectual or other developmental disabilities .The organization helps fill the gaps for clients in fulfilling their basic shelter, food or clothing needs.
- Catholic Charities, Inc. through their preventing homelessness in Southeast Kansas program Catholic Charities helps families with their rent or utility needs.
- Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas, Inc.: “Building Health-Increasing Capacity to Serve.” Funds will provide a turtle-shaped exam table for the children’s exam room.
- Interfaith Housing Services, Inc.: Funds provide education materials for the CASH (Creating Assets, Savings and Hope) program which educates individuals and families on saving for a house or home repairs.
- Mount Carmel Foundation: The grant funds will assist in the hospital foundation’s programs for skin and colon rectal cancer awareness and prevention.
- Public Health of Labette County: The funds provide materials for increasing parenting skills for new families.
- TFI Family Services: The grant provides resources for families preparing to be foster homes by helping purchase items to complete requirements.
- Unified School District 250: The grant provides for the purchase of mattresses to go with the beds donated from PSU. The beds are given to children who don’t have their own bed.
- Women’s Resource Center of Southeast Kansas: Grant provides funding to support the Child Safety Seat incentive program at the Center.
Youth Activities
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Crawford County: The grant was used to fund the Thank You Celebration for volunteers .
- Big Brothers big Sisters of Labette County: The grant provided for activities involving the “Bigs” and “Littles” in Parsons.
- Children’s Advocacy Center: The funds help replenish materials for the Teen Support and Abuse Prevention Program.
- Elm Acres Foundation: The grant supports the behavior programs for the resident youth. Items used for behavior rewards are part of the program to reshape the young men residing at the center.
- Family Resource Center: The grant provides for the Outdoor Classroom at the Center. The goals include keeping children physically active learning and teachers applying different learning skills in the outdoor classroom. Activities also include learning more about being outside in nature.
- First United Methodist Church, Wesley House: Funding provided a major portion of the Back to School backpack and school supply effort for Crawford County school-age children.
- Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas: Free Little Library-Free Book Exchanges. Three book boxes will be built and adopted by community members and an initial supply of books purchased. This is a collaborative effort with USD 250 giving teachers an overall awareness of the project with their input for sustaining and expanding the project.
- Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes, Inc.: This grant will fund the development of the exhibit featuring David Levy, astronomer who co-discovered the Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 which collided with Jupiter.
- McCune Osage Township Library: The grant makes possible the supplies to support the Story Time for children. Art activities matching the book being read aloud plus a snack of the same theme are components of each reading time.
- Pittsburg YMCA Academy of Dance: The grant has made possible the purchase of a Marley Floor. This will improve dancer safety and maximize technical performance and outcomes.
- Pittsburg Parks and Recreation: The grant makes possible the “Camp Now and Then” program. The Parks and Recreation department through school partnerships is offering a variety of activities for students during times school isn’t in session.
- Pittsburg Public Library: In cooperation with the Department of Teaching and Leadership at PSU the library will use this grant to bring a well-known children’s or young adult author or illustrator to Pittsburg. The program will be free and offered to PSU education students, area school students, teachers, librarians, and interested community members.
- Special Olympics Kansas (Pittsburg affiliate): “Bike for Life Fitness” program is partially funded with a grant that provides for a stationary bicycle. This is a continuing program for the Special Olympic program in Pittsburg as the team works to instill healthy life habits in their program participants.
- Fort Scott Area Community Foundation: This foundation is an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas. They received a grant to supplement their granting program providing more for youth oriented programs for the area they serve.
- Girard Area Community Foundation: This foundation is an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas. They received a grant to supplement their granting program providing more of youth oriented programs for the area they serve.
Arts Grant
ENACTUS: The Pittsburg State University students in the ENACTUS (formerly SIFE) program are focusing on culture in the Pittsburg area. The students through their retail store Krimson Kulture provide a venue for local artists and artists with free trade organizations. This venue also provides a place for international students to share their culture while continuing the ENACTUS program with disadvantaged youth. The disadvantaged youth learn job skills.
