The Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas (CFSEK) will host Match Day 2022 in two weeks on National Giving Tuesday, November 29. Match Day is an exciting fundraising campaign to help local nonprofit organizations increase their endowed funds and build sustainability. This year, the Community Foundation (plus one generous donor through a donor-advised fund) is offering $51,000 in matching funds for community donations to 36 local organizations’ endowments.
That $51,000 match pool is important, because it pushes the total amount raised by the annual Match Day fundraiser since 2016 over $1 million!

Match Day basics
The Community Foundation is offering $51,000 to match community contributions to 36 local nonprofits’ endowed funds. The $51,000 match pool will be divided among the participating organizations’ endowments in proportion to their share of community contributions, subject to a 20% limit. The full 100% of each donation, plus the prorated match amount, will be placed in the organization’s endowed fund.

The road to $1 million
On November 29, 2016, CFSEK hosted its first-ever Match Day. The Foundation offered $20,000 of its own unrestricted funds to match community contributions to the endowments of 20 local nonprofit organizations. The community’s response was overwhelming: In just 24 hours, more than 150 donors gave nearly $72,000 in support of the campaign.
Since then, the generosity has just kept growing as CFSEK has continued to host Match Day each National Giving Tuesday, the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Last year, the Foundation (and two generous donors) offered $47,000 in matching funds. In response, 276 community donors contributed $176,190.37 to the endowments of 31 local organizations.
When Match Day 2021 concluded at the end of November 30, 2021, the five-year total for community contributions and CFSEK match amounts stood at just under $980,000. This year, the Community Foundation is offering $51,000 in matching funds, which means that this year, the grand total raised by Match Day since 2016 will surpass $1 million!
That’s $1 million that has been set aside for the lasting benefit of local nonprofit organizations. It’s $1 million that is being invested to provide annual support for our charitable partners—support they don’t have to spend staff time and resources pursuing.
We think that’s a big deal and something worth celebrating!
How to get involved
We’ve made it easier than ever to donate to as many participating funds as you’d like on Match Day! You have three options to give:
- Donate online on November 29: We’ll launch a special Match Day section at the top of our Donate page as the day approaches. You can select one or more participating funds and donate using a PayPal account or credit or debit card through PayPal’s website.
- Bring your donation to our office November 29: You can help us celebrate Match Day in person by bringing your donation (along with a donation form (PDF)) to our office. We’re located in the basement of the Commerce Bank building, 100 S. Broadway St., Ste. 100, in Pittsburg.
- Mail your donation to us with a postmark no later than November 30. Do you need a little extra time to make your donation? You can mail your check and donation form (PDF) to CFSEK at P.O. Box 1448, Pittsburg, KS 66762.
If you’re paying by check, please make your check payable to the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas. If you don’t have a donation form (PDF) handy, please write which participating organization(s) you’d like your check to benefit in the memo line.
